Celebrate Black History Month in Wichita! Wichita has a rich African American culture than many don’t realize exists. Wichita is home to the first African American to win an Oscar and the location of one of the first lunch counter sit-ins for equality, and that history goes all the way back to the start of the city! Some of the first settlers to Wichita were African American. This history is celebrated at The Kansas African American Museum in Wichita, where they just launched a new interactive experience for people to explore historical places around the city.
