As Nigeria celebrates her 62nd independence, I’d like to use this opportunity to call upon the African LGBTQ folks living in diaspora. We are tired of hiding who we are and settling for spaces where we are only tolerated but not wanted.

There is true power and privilege in our dual nationalities. Let’s harness it and re-write the outdated standards we’ve been raised with. Let’s heal and build more respectable communities where we can unapologetically thrive in our most authentic and unique styles. Let’s be the best of both worlds!

Because we are here and they’re just gonna have to deal with it!
