Why Black-Owned Businesses Matter — From Black Owners Themselves
In this discussion, which is a continuation of REVOLT’s Juneteenth special with VICE, we are joined by Black business owners to talk about the importance of investing in Black-owned businesses and why we need more Black entrepreneurs. We explore companies’ failure to diversify as one of the reasons more of us are creating our own companies, lack of loan opportunities for Black owners and much more.
Featured panelists include Pinky Cole, founder and CEO of Slutty Vegan; comedian and “Wild ‘N Out” star B. Simone; Derrick Hayes, founder of Big Dave’s Cheesesteaks; Keon Davis, founder of Smooth-N-Groove; and Dr. Lakeysha Hallmon, aka Dr. Key, founder of The Village Market ATL.
Inspired by Sean “Diddy” Combs’ successful “State Of Emergency: The State of Black America & Coronavirus” town hall, “REVOLT BLACK NEWS” is a platform that is designed to report news from the perspective of Black people for Black people.
“When I started REVOLT, I always wanted to develop a platform to report the news from our perspective, from our lens, from our people, so I decided to launch ’REVOLT BLACK NEWS.’” said Combs. “We’re here with solutions. We’ve already heard about what we can’t do, but this is what we can do.”
