UGANDAN BOBI WINE MEETS THE AFRICAN DIASPORA

The iconic faith leaders Rev. Dr. Herbert Daughtry and Rev. Dr. Karen Daughtry welcome Ugandan politician and internal star Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu know as ‘Bobi Wine’ to the historic “House of the Lord Church” in Brooklyn on April 28th. The event titled “Engaging With the African Diaspora” co-organized by the true son of Uganda Professor Milton Alimadi, co-founder of Black Start News and author of The Hearts of Darkness.” Bobi Wine, a millennial Ugandan artist turned politician was the main challenger — and most believed the winner — of the 2021 contentious election against the long-time autocrat Yoweri Museveni.

Bobi Wine grew up in the streets of Kampala and became popular as a rap artist and actor. In his impassioned address, Bobi said, “The nation is being mortgaged, the resources of our country are being mortgaged for keeping power.” He advised that Ugandans and Africans should not look at anybody for our liberation because “the dictatorship back home is largely sponsored by the West.”

To his fellow Ugandans he said, “You’re the hope that you’re looking for . . . everything depends on what you do. I want to encourage you to mobilize, to organize and agitate.” Mr. Wine commended Ugandan Americans for spreading the words on the plight of Ugandans back home, and in essence inviting their friends and community to this forum to join the struggle for freedom in Uganda. In closing, Mr. Wine echoed the words of the greatest Civil Rights Leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. “Injustice Anywhere is a Threat to Justice Everywhere.”
