Twinkie Clark is Truly Gospel's Vanguard | Keeping Black History Alive

This year for Black History Month, theGrio honors the legacy of Black Pioneers whose groundbreaking achievements left profound impacts on American culture. We continue Keeping Black History Alive by spotlighting the vanguard of gospel music, Twinkie Clark.

Twinkie Clark was four years old when she learned to play the piano and 12 when she learned the organ. By 13 she made her recording debut and began touring nationally alongside her sisters Karen, Jacky, Denise and Dorinda. Together, they were known as the Clark Sisters. To this day the Clark Sisters stand as the most decorated gospel group. With 7 Grammy nominations to date and 2 Grammy wins for Best Gospel Performance and Best Traditional Gospel Album. Her music has been sampled by Xscape, Aaliyah, Mary J. Blige, Jay-Z and Beyonce Knowles. #KeepingBlackHistoryAlive
