A Trump-backed Republican running for a Senate seat from Arizona has decided that the blame for gun violence in America rests with black people. That is what he said during a recent appearance on a conservative podcast, in spite of the fact that the statistics tell us a completely different story. The majority of mass shooters in this country’s history have been white people, a fact that Republicans conveniently ignore. Ring of Fire’s Farron Cousins discusses this.

Blake masters, a Republican candidate running for Senate from the state of Arizona who happens to be endorsed by Donald Trump, went on a conservative talk show and actually blamed the gun violence problem. Here are the United States squarely on black people. Here is what Mr. Masters had to say on the Jeff or of its show. Uh, here it is. We do have a gun violence problem in this country and it’s gang violence. It’s people in Chicago St. Louis shooting each other very often, you know, black people, frankly, and the Democrats don’t want to do anything about that. Now this was actually from an appearance on April 11th, but it has of course, resurfaced in light of all of the gun violence we have seen in the United States these past few weeks, but there’s also major problems with what Mr. Masters has to say here. First and foremost, statistics don’t back up.
Anything that he’s saying, majority of mass shooters here in the United States, 53% of them are white. Only 16% of them are black. The remaining percentages are other races and nationalities that are even lower than 16%, but the vast majority of mass shooters, again, mass shooters, those involved in events where four or more people get shot by definition are white. So yeah, if you’re gonna be in a mass shooting event, uh, more likely than not the person shooting at you is going to be a white man. But Mr. Masters doesn’t wanna address that because as usual Republicans like to try to turn the tables and say, no, the big problem of course is black people shooting other black people. And Democrats don’t want to talk about that. Is that an epidemic of violence? Sure. I mean, the statistics do kind of show that. Yeah, that’s, that’s a bad thing that happens a lot, but black people are 10 times more likely to be the victims of gun violence here in the United States.
Even though the majority of guns are actually owned by white people, but here’s the thing. He said, something else interesting there, he said Chicago, right? Chicago, every time Republicans want to talk about gun violence, they gotta talk about Chicago, right? Huge black population. So clearly they’re just blowing each other away all the time. You see Fox news report. Oh my God, there were six, six people killed in Chicago over the weekend, cuz it’s just a hell hole. Listen, Chicago doesn’t even crack the top 25 of cities when it comes to gun violence here in the United States. No. See that title actually rests in red states for the most part. Let me read you this. These are the top 15 cities in the United States in terms of gun violence from number one to 15 in order St. Louis, which he did mention
Baltimore, Birmingham, Alabama, Dayton, Ohio, Baton Rouge, uh, Baton Rouge, excuse me, new Orleans, Kansas city, Missouri, Memphis, Cleveland, Richmond, Virginia, Miami gardens, Florida, Washington, DC, north Charleston, South Carolina and Peoria. Illinois. Chicago is number 28 on that list, but they want us to focus on black on black crime. So let’s talk about that for a minute. As I said, statistically, yes, that is a problem. I’m not gonna deny that statistics don’t lie. Republicans do, but here’s the other part of that? D
