Trading and Cultural Gateways Across the Water: the Ports of the Black Sea

The Black Sea is a critical location in contemporary politics, economics, and trade. As part of a course on the Black Sea, this panel will interrogate the history and future of three ports: Odessa, Istanbul and the port of Sulina on the Danube Delta in Romania. They will explore urban ecology, water-scapes, rivers and coastlines, and help us understand the Black Sea region, and the trade and networks that characterize its history and cultural interconnections.
