Thousands of Black Sea dolphins die during Russia-Ukraine war | Ukraine News | NewsRme

Dolphins in the Black Sea are reportedly dying at an alarming pace due to persistent noise pollution caused by Russian warships and submarines. This noise pollution is proving to be fatal to the marine creatures. Scientists and conservation organizations believe this is happening.
Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February, thousands of Black Sea dolphins have killed each month, the Kyiv Independent reported Wednesday. Recent estimates confirm months of reporting by government authorities and marine scientists detailing the devastating toll the war has had on the dolphin population of the Black Sea.
Environmental scientist Ivan Rusev of Ukraine’s Tuzly Estuaries National Nature Park said 5,000 dolphins died between March and July. That’s three times higher than before the battle, and a whole ecosystem is in danger.
Before the war, international scientists conducted the most complete assessment of the Black Sea’s cetaceans, which include whales, dolphins, and porpoises.
