The Mysterious Life and Fake Death of Lil Tay

Lil Tay was once known 5 years ago as the internets’ biggest ‘flexer’ with multiple videos going viral of her saying she owned cars and properties alongside millions of dollars. She would ‘take drugs’ and have a very in your face attitude with African American Vernacular about what she was doing. The internet could not believe not only was she talking this way and that she had everything she had, so they kept following for more. Her Instagram is currently sitting at 3. 4 million followers. She talked about having a house in the hills, having multiple cars, and how her ‘haters’ were so much older than her but were struggling financially. This went on for weeks as she showed multiple cars and homes, she became verified on social media and was part of that era of ‘problematic children who got famous’. She even stated that she was a Harvard dropout and collaborated with other problematic influencers such as Jake Paul, solidifying her fame in this subsection of youtube.
In a Good Morning America Interview in 2018, Juju Chang sat down with both Lil Tay and her mother. In the interview, Tay who is sitting directly next to her mum explains that all of this was ‘her’ idea and that she was ‘not being exploited’
