The Impact of Covid on SMMEs in General and on Black Business in Particular The Way Forward

Watch the video where our Dr Jabulile Msimango-Galawe (DrJ) – Senior Lecturer in Entrepreneurship at Wits Business School was one of the paneelists

When Covid-19 struck last year, some small businesses turned crisis into opportunity: they changed tactics and leveraged technology to ensure their survival. But sadly, for many more, the pandemic was ‘the last straw’ in an already tough economy, and they were forced to close their doors.

Small business is the lifeblood of a growing economy. What needs to be done to support SMMEs in South Africa so that they are better positioned to thrive, and not fold, in times of crisis?

Wits Business School in one of their Leadership Dialogues unpacked the real impact of Covid on small businesses in general, and on black-owned businesses in particular, and considered the way forward.
