South Africa’s ANC secretary-general questions western accountability in Iraq, Afghanistan
The secretary-general of South Africa’s African National Congress (ANC), Fikile Mbalula, has raised serious concerns about the double standards of western nations’ policies, particularly regarding the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. His comments were made amid discussions of a possible visit by Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, who is under investigation by the International Criminal Court for alleged war crimes.
Mbalula criticised the western countries for their role in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, stating that their actions resulted in the loss of over a million lives, yet accountability has been glaringly absent.
Despite the controversy surrounding Putin, Mbalula confirmed that the ANC would welcome the Russian president.
