SHOULD THE AFRICAN DIASPORA BE GIVEN AUTOMATIC CITIZENSHIP IN THE GAMBIA?

First and foremost, the Gambians are the most welcoming people in Africa and almost all non Gambians residing in Gambia can attest to this fact. The debate within the African Diaspora Community in Gambia is fighting for “Automatic Citizenship” as a right that should be accorded to them.

I personally, and many others Gambians are opposed to the word “Automatic Citizenship”, rather we should be advocation for a pathway to citizen for the African Diaspora in all African countries not just the Gambia. These magnificent effort should be channelled through the African Union so as to come up with a continental solution for the sustainable repatriation of the African Diaspora back to Africa.
