PGC Black Business History | Sis' Taverns
Welcome to today’s moment in Prince George’s County Black Business History.
Our Vice President of Policy and Public Relations, Lori Valentine, shares the story of a North Brentwood building, constructed in 1912. Owned by a local African American resident, the property was an important commercial and social fixture in North Brentwood, first as a grocery store and later as Sis’s Tavern and Baby Dee’s Guest Club. The most notable claim to fame was attracting legends like Duke Ellington and Pearl Bailey to the County.
It is still a recognizable landmark in the community.
