Open Society Foundations secures artifacts and cultural objects: Patrick Gaspard



In the week, the Open Society Foundations launched a $15 million dollar initiative to strengthen and expedite, efforts surrounding the restitution of artifacts and cultural objects looted from the African continent. The launch coincides with the first anniversary of the publication of the “Sarr-Savoy report’, which called for the immediate, unconditional return of African objects gained through theft, looting, despoilment, trickery, and forced consent, prior to 1960. The Chairperson of the Open Society Foundations, and former US ambassador to South Africa, Patrick Gaspard is joining us via skype from Europe.
