Mysterious Yi Minority Culture Survives in Beijing
The Yi Nationality is one of the oldest ethnic groups in China. The Liang Shan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, located in southern Sichuan Province, is China’s largest representation of the Yi minority. Because the mountains create a natural barrier, the Yi has long been isolated from popular culture, and the life of the Yi remains a mysterious fantasy in the minds of most people.
However, since the 1990s, more young Yi people have left the mountains and come to big cities to work and study. Gradually, they’ve learned how to adapt to the fast-pace of modern society. Aha, Aqie and Aga are three young Yis who have come to Beijing.
