Little Mix star Jesy Nelson accused of 'blackfishing' and cultural appropriation

Little Mix star Jesy Nelson has been accused of ‘blackfishing’ in a music video featuring rapper Nicki Minaj.

Blackfishing is a form of cultural appropriation where non-black people adopt characteristics to appear black or mixed race.

Social-media users claim Ms Nelson’s skin colour, make up and sampling of black rapper P. Diddy in the video amounts to a form of blackfishing, but Dominique Samuels says everyone borrows aspects of different cultures to look racially ambiguous.

“So what’s this fixation with Jesy? It’s cruel considering she tried to commit suicide.”
