Killer Mike “Motherless” Official Lyrics & Meaning | Verified
When Killer Mike was working on his newest album “MICHAEL,” the LP’s executive producer No I.D. thought something was missing. “We’ve gotta go deeper,” he said. Soon after that, Mike went into the booth and said a few words he hadn’t said before. “My momma dead, my grand momma dead / To keep it honest, I get depressed and be feeling scared.”
The result was “Motherless,” a profoundly introspective song featuring Eryn Allen Kane’s soulful vocals. “This is the proper eulogy for Denise and Bettie,” Killer Mike explains. “This record will live forever. My grandmother and mother, hence, live forever. My children’s children’s children will know that these are the women they came from. That means a lot to me.”
On today’s episode of VERIFIED, Mike explores the deeply personal stories that inspired “Motherless.”
