Kerala High Court scraps 80% minority quota for Muslims
The Minority Scholarship Quota has reduced the Muslim quota from 80% to 58.67%. On Friday, the court had scrapped the 80:20 ratio of the distribution of the benefits and struck down three orders in this regard. The scholarship has its genesis in the Rajinder Sachar Commission report, which looked into Muslims’ socio, economic and educational conditions in India, and the subsequent Paloli Mohammad Kutty committee report, which suggested steps for implementing the recommendations of the commission report in Kerala. chief justice S Manikumar and Justice Shaji P Chaly had directed the government to pass the orders.
