Kenyans call UK Royals to embrace Black culture

(8 Mar 2021) The news of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s interview barely made news in Kenya Monday, which is part of the Commonwealth.
Most newspapers didn’t mention it.
But Kenyans can be passionate about their views on the royal family especially when race is involved.
“Meghan is a 21st century icon of a strong woman. She has faced racism head-on. With the help of her husband, she has decided to move, leave royalty, leave the big names, for the sake of her family and kids,” said a resident of Nairobi.
Britain and its royal family absorbed the tremors Monday from a sensational television interview with Prince Harry and Meghan, in which the couple said they encountered racist attitudes and a lack of support that drove the duchess to thoughts of suicide.
In a two-hour soul-baring interview by Oprah Winfrey, the couple painted a deeply unflattering picture of life inside the royal household, depicting a cold, uncaring institution that they had to flee to save their lives.
