Importance of Teaching Native and African American History Correctly
In honor of Black History Month, there is an update to a story “The World Tonight” told its viewers a while back.
A Georgia school has removed a homework question after it prompted a discussion about race relations. It advised students to “write a letter to President Andrew Jackson from the perspective of an American settler. Explain why you think removing the Cherokee will help the United States grow and prosper.”
It proves that history is a living thing and how we teach it is constantly being debated.
Vincent Schilling, editor of Native Viewpoint, joins Nayyera Haq on “The World Tonight” to discuss the update and Black and Native American history.
All this and more on “The World Tonight.”
