We can’t sugar-coat America’s past of slavery, Dean Nelson, chairman of The Frederick Douglass Foundation, says. Nelson’s great-great-grandmother was a slave. Today, he says all Americans should “acknowledge the past, but we can also acknowledge how bright our future can be if we’re willing to forgive and if we’re willing to embrace a better future for tomorrow.”
