High Teen Pregnancy Rate Among African-American Girls – "Love Child" – A WRAL Documentary
Teen pregnancy costs taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars a year in associated healthcare and welfare costs. Although the teen pregnancy rate have declined in the last few decades it is still highest among African-American girls. The WRALDoc team investigates the high rate of teen pregnancy among African-American girls in North Carolina and through their own personal stories, examines some of the reasons why. Gerald Owens hosts his program which originally aired June 18, 2008.
This documentary also won the prestigious national Sigma Delta Chi Award from the Society for Professional Journalists.
