Hampton House in Miami Continues Legacy in the Black Community

“An oasis in a sea of racism” are the words used to describe a beloved go-to place for many Black activists, athletes and entertainers in Miami during the 1960s and early 1970s.

The Hampton House offered high-end activities and acceptance for Black people. However, this former “jewel of Black Miami” completely lost its luster many decades ago, but now is finally starting to shine again. BNC correspondent Stephanie Bertini explains the story on today’s Center Stage. To add more context to the Hampton House’s legacy, board President Jacqui Colyer joins “Start Your Day” to discuss what’s next for the iconic place.

All this and more on “Start Your Day.”
