Gabon’s ex-president Ali Bongo, who was ousted in a military coup last year has announced he is quitting politics. In a letter addressed to the people of Gabon, Bongo said he was withdrawing from political life. He also asked for clemency for his imprisoned wife and son who he said are facing violence and torture.
