It’s been one year since the Lekki Toll Shooting, a moment that came from the historic #ENDSARS protest. It was triggered by the excesses of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a now-disbanded police tactical unit, notorious for cruelty against crime suspects.
Although SARS activities included unlawful arrests, torture, and extrajudicial killings, the protest became a platform to demand government’s decisive action against insecurity, corruption, economic woes, general maladministration, and lack of opportunities for the youths.
