Actress Shim Eun-kyung has won a Japanese Academy Award for her role in a movie that criticized Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s administration. Shim played the starring role in the 2019 Japanese film “The Journalist,” a saga about a political scandal. Her performance in Japanese created a stir. Organizers of the Japan Academy Film Prize said Shim has been named as one of the winners for this year’s Best Actress honor. The Japan Academy Prize established in 1978 customarily unveils the winners of key categories beforehand and announces the grand prize among these winners on the day of the award ceremony. Therefore Shim will once again compete for the Top Best Actress award during the ceremony scheduled in March. Director Bong Joon-ho’s 2013 film “Snowpiercer”is coming back as a US TV series. According to foreign media outlets, there have been efforts on the film’s television adaptation since 2015 which was delayed for various reasons but finally, a TV series will air on Warner Media’s cable channel beginning this May. Snowpiercer was director Bong’s Hollywood debut film. The sci-fi black comedy addresses conflict between the haves and the have-nots unfolding inside a train which is carrying the last survivors of the human race. Bong has taken part in the TV remake as an executive producer. The series stars actress Jennifer Connelly and actor Daveed Diggs.
