Contributions of Black Americans to the American Labor Movement

Today, Americans are celebrating the American Labor Movement with a day off to rest and reflect.

Dr. Gregg Carr joins “DC Today” with guest host Kelly Wright to give a brief look at the history of the work and contributions of African American laborers to the development of the United States. Carr says the contributions of African Americans to the labor movement is widely unknown because it isn’t helpful to the myth of “American exceptionalism.” He says, “The story of labor in the Western hemisphere, really in the modern world system, is the story of appropriated Black labor.”
