Classism and the Politics of ‘Making It’ on Black Twitter
The Black community is out here making platforms like Twitter pop. There’s even a term to describe our involvement on the site and it’s called Black Twitter.
Doctor Meredith Clark, assistant media studies professor at the University of Virginia, defines “Black Twitter” as “a network of culturally connected communicators using the platform to draw attention to issues of concern to Black communities. It’s the culture that we grew up with. It’s the culture that we experienced in our lives and school, in the workplace, with entertainment … around specific cultural moments.” Independent journalist Julian Kimble joins BNC’s “AMplified with Aisha Mills” to discuss Black Twitter.
