Celebrating Nellie Franklin: UO’s trailblazing first black female graduate #news #blackhistory

The University of Oregon is honoring the legacy of Nellie Franklin, the school’s first black female graduate. Despite discrimination, isolation, and the hate she experienced on campus, Franklin graduated in 1932 with a music degree. After graduation she advocated for the creation of the first Black sorority chapter in the Pacific Northwest.
