Cedric the Entertainer and Tichina Arnold of The Neighborhood are teaming up to host Super Bowl Soulful Celebration which includes performances from Earth, Wind & Fire, Kirk Franklin, Robin Thicke, and Damar Hamlin of the Buffalo Bills.
Cedric and Arnold are taking a break from their NAACP Image Award-winning series to host the 25th annual event, formerly known as Super Bowl Gospel Celebration. The event returns during Super Bowl week at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada, and will premiere on CBS on Saturday, February 10 at 8 pm ET.
Since its 1999 inception, Super Bowl Soulful Celebration has served as a multicultural program and community event that brings together NFL Players, renowned gospel and mainstream artists, along with special guests on a single stage. It’s filled with joyful music, hope, and fellowship like no other!
“This is going to be fun. This is the kickoff for Super Bowl weekend,” Cedric tells BLACK ENTERPRISE. “I was very excited to be able to bring football and faith together, show people what it’s like when these guys don’t have their helmets on, what kind of great stuff they do in the community.”
This year’s event will pay honor Hamlin with the New Beginnings Award, acknowledging his commitment, resilience, and remarkable journey in surmounting challenges to attain success. Additionally, Markquese Bell of the Dallas Cowboys will be honored with the “HBCU Player of The Year” award. Past recipients of these accolades include luminaries such as Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders, Tim Brown, and Russell Wilson.
This year’s Super Bowl airs Sunday, February 11. The Neighborhood sixth season premiere is on February 12, at 8 p.m. on CBS.
Hosting Super Bowl Soulful was an honor and pleasure for Cedric and Arnold who are typically busy on the CBS lot filming their show but got some time off to have a little Super Bowl fun.
“We get a chance to be out off campus, off the CBS lot. And we get a chance to be ourselves,” Arnold says. “We get a chance to be amongst people and actually just be able to minister and share with one another.”
