Buffalo Genealogical Society of the African Diaspora (BGSAD),Workshop: Our Kindred Stories, May 2016
African-American Genealogy
The Buffalo Genealogical Society of the African Diaspora (BGSAD) was established in 1996 by Sonia L. Walker and Robert N. Davis, Jr. The purpose of the group is to foster genealogical research by assisting members with methodologies, the use of finding aids, online databases, and skill development to document and preserve ancestral family, local, regional, and national African-American history. BGSAD’s Funeral Program Project has indexed over 5000 obituaries.
In celebration of the 20th anniversary of BGSAD, the members are compiling a book that will highlight their respective profiles and feature ancestor stories from their genealogy research.
The BGSAD meetings are held from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on the second Saturday of each month at the Frank E. Merriweather, Jr. Library, Buffalo, NY. The meeting activities include dissemination and exchange of information, collaboration, networking, lectures, workshops, special projects, and field trips. BGSAD welcomes new members that are interested documenting their family history and conducting genealogy research. Our email address is [email protected].
