Breaking Barriers: Black-Owned Businesses Making an Impact
This week’s rerun program will cover the effects of black-owned enterprises. As more people decide to take a chance and work for themselves rather than continue with traditional employment, the rate of new business openings has risen in recent years.
The Black community has been a shining example of this newfound entrepreneurial spirit. From 1.1 million in February 2020 to 1.2 million in February 2022, the number of self-employed black professionals increased. Additionally, over 2 million Black-owned small enterprises are already operating in the country.
Black business owners include sole proprietorships and small companies with a few or many people (the U.S. Small Business Administration classifies a small business as a company with less than 500 employees), making up a sector of entrepreneurship as diverse as the community.
