Black Excellence
By Diamond Ward

Black Excellence is a documentary that focuses on a different and often ignored aspect of excellence within the black community by focusing on young black students who attend the prestigious Harvard University. This was documented at the 43rd Annual H. Naylor Fitzhugh Conference. These young brilliant students addressed what led them to Harvard, their support systems, and the qualities installed in them that contributed to their Harvard experience and success.
In this documentary you hear from Ariel Investments President, Chair of the Board for Dream Works Animation, Mellody Hobson, Music Producer extraordinare Swizz Beatz, and Former CEO of McDonalds Don Thompson. They share extremely valuable information about doing business in the most highest place of business.
This documentary’s importance stems from the issues of limited representation in the corporate boardroom and presence in Fortune 500 companies.
However, the most remarkable aspect of Black Excellence is that it showcases to the black community that our excellence is not limited to fields of entertainment. Even with institutions that set us up to fail, the only thing that truly limits us is the belief we are unable. We can attend Harvard University if we put the work in and acquire the right mindset
