In US news and current events today, the Paycheck Protection Program and CARES Act have been a lifeblood for small businesses and many a black owned business throughout the coronavirus pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic laid bare the economic inequalities rampant in our country, and no amount of Small Business Administration loans or SBA loans under PPP and the cares act can fully make Black owned businesses whole. However, as this Black business owner argues, without PPP loans reformed, we could be facing an extinction even for many Black businesses and Black business owners. In the wake of the Black Lives Matter movement, it’s important to remember that it also effects Black livelihoods and economic security.
