AFRO SPAIN: The African Diaspora in Spain

This week we’re in Spain! Did you know that for 800 years Spain was under Arab/African rule? In this video we’ll learn about Ziryab, the Afro-Iraqi musician who had a huge cultural impact in Spain, as well as Juan de Pareja, the slave-turned-artist who studied under the extraordinary Spanish painter, Diego Velazquez.
