African Heritage Month – The Resiliency of our African Business Owners
Titled the “Resiliency of African Businesses during the COVID-19 Pandemic,” this video honors the work and tenacity of African business owners from different sectors in Montgomery County. The video segment highlights their businesses, explains how they navigated the pandemic and showcases opportunities for future growth. Produced, Written and Narrated by Mirchaye Sahlu.
Montgomery County, Maryland is the first in the nation to proclaim the month of September as African Heritage Month. In the spirit of recognizing and celebrating Africans that live and work in the County, Mirchaye Sahlu pitched the idea of highlighting business owners from different areas of business, especially focusing on industries that have been heavily impacted by the pandemic. Our minority and small businesses have been hit very hard and Mirchaye thought it would be worth sharing how they operated their businesses during the pandemic and how they are recovering since the shutdown has ended. The idea was also to show the diversity of the continent by featuring people from different cultures/countries. We witness representation from West, North and East Africa.
