African American Civil War Museum Captures Contributions of Black Soldiers

The African American Civil War Museum is one of many structures in the U.S. capital of Washington D.C. which aims to educate people about the role Black Americans played in the country’s history. As part of his coverage of Black History Month, VOA’s Ignatius Annor spoke with the museum’s Marquett Milton, the historic interpreter, and Dawn Chitty, the director of education.

They explain that the museum wants to teach Americans about the United States Colored Troops (USCT) and revitalize the historic Black community on U Street which took a hit after the 1968 riots over the assassination of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.
