Gerald Horne Biography Series, Episode 10 with siblings Malaika Horne Wells & Gwen Moore

This is the tenth interview of the Gerald Horne biography series. In this interview we are joined by two of Gerald’s siblings: Malaika Horne Wells & Gwen Moore (recorded on 8.12.23).

Gwen Moore is the Curator of Urban Landscape and Community Identity at the Missouri Historical Society focusing on race, ethnicity, race relations, social movements, civil rights activism and social justice issues in St. Louis; as well as urban renewal and its destructive impact on communities of color. That interest has led her to an in-depth study of Mill Creek Valley, the largest African American residential area in St. Louis that was demolished in 1959. Gwen Moore has been associated with the Missouri Historical Society since 1998 working as a researcher, community programmer and oral historian.

Malaika Horne Wells is founding director of the Executive Leadership Consortium at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. She is an academic writer, book author and journalist, writing extensively on topics from politics, health, social causes to women’s issues.

Dr. Malaika Horne served on the editorial board of the Journal of Diversity in Higher Education. She is currently a contributing writer for the on-line publication, Arts Today. She also founded and chaired the Chancellor’s Cultural Diversity Initiative at University of Missouri-St. Louis from 2004 to 2011. She created a student radio show and podcast, The University World View, a diversity program interviewing cultural diversity specialists.

Gerald Horne currently holds the Moores Professorship of History and African American Studies at the University of Houston. Gerald Horne is an activist, scholar, researcher, archivists, author, historian and much much more. He has written at least 47 books by my count, and is considered one of the most prolific history authors of all time. His most recent book which was just published in April is entitled “Revolting Capital: Racism & Radicalism in Washington D.C. , 1900-2000.”
