News18 Live | Russia Ukraine War News | Black Sea Grain Deal News | India Bans Rice Export News
As Russia continues to attack Ukraine, the effects on global food security and grain prices are palpable. Continuous attacks on Ukraine have damaged large stocks of food. This has left the global markets in panic.

India, the world’s largest rice exporter, has banned some overseas sales of non-basmati white rice “with immediate effect”. The move could impact countries heavily reliant on rice imports and exacerbate food insecurity in the wake of the Covid pandemic, the Ukraine war, and El Nino’s production disruptions.

Russia’s decision to pull out of an agreement which allowed the export of Ukrainian agricultural goods via a safe channel through the Black Sea amid the continuing war is already reverberating far from the front lines of fighting in Ukraine.

For years, East African countries rattled by global climate change have relied on Ukrainian grain exports for sustenance. Now, an end to the agreement could lead to rising consumer prices, and further strain farmers and cash-strapped aid organisations already struggling to respond to challenges like conflict to drought, analysts say.
