DJEMB3 (the drum)

The drum painted in the piece is a roped tuned, skin covered goblet drum that is played with bare hands. Usually played as part of a musical set, it is used to communicate and entertain during durbars. Djemb3, which means to ‘gather together in peace’, is a call to the African diaspora and the African continent to not forget our roots and gather together in peace
