Julian Bond at the Commemoration of the African American Burial Ground at Monticello
On October 6, 2001, Julian Bond, former chairman of the NAACP and Professor of History at the University of Virginia spoke before more than 250 people attended a Ceremony of Commemoration held at the African-American burial ground at Monticello.
The burial ground was identified in 2001 by Monticello Archaeologists as part of ongoing survey of Jefferson’s 5,000 acre plantation.
