WATCH: Sen. Graham’s opening statement in Jackson Supreme Court confirmation hearings

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., lamented that President Joe Biden did not pick a nominee for the Supreme Court from his home state during his opening remarks March 21, the first day of Supreme Court confirmation hearings for Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson.

“This is a new game for the Supreme Court, and this game is particularly disturbing to me because there’s been a wholesale effort of the left to take down a nominee from my state, and I don’t like it very much. And if that’s the way the game’s going to be played then I’ll have a response,” he said.
Graham also compared Jackson’s hearing to that of Justice Brett Kavanaugh, saying at the time, Kavanaugh was vilified by the Senate and the public throughout his own confirmation process in 2018, which was marked by allegations of sexual assault. He has denied the allegations.

“None of us are going to do that to you. And if any of us does that to you, all hell will break out, and it should,” he said.

Jackson was nominated by President Joe Biden in February to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer. If confirmed, she will be the first Black woman on the high court.
