Music from the Museum: Meet the Northwest African American Museums Choir Ensemble

There’s a choir, there’s a gospel choir, and then there’s the Northwest African American Museums (NAAM) African American Choir Ensemble – or ACE, as it’s referred to by its members.

They rehearse in a chapel, specifically the chapel of St. Therese Church in Madrona, and they host members from different church groups.

ACE was founded by NAAM as a response to the racial reckoning of 2020 and early 2021, according to the description on their website, and they debuted on June 15 with the first of many eclectic tunes – an acapella rendition of “O-o-h Child” by the Chicago soul band, the Five Stairsteps.

That debut performance was only the beginning for ACE, which has performed at three other events hosted by NAAM. ACE members say they are proud to represent NAAM through music.
