Celebrating Cockrell's Black Excellence Alumni Panel

In celebration of Black History Month, join us as we hear from some of our most accomplished and dedicated Texas Engineering Black alumni leaders as they share about their experiences as students, how they have navigated unique challenges in their careers and how they are promoting lasting change in society.

Panelists:

Alex Tekle (Moderator) – an electrical and computer engineering mathematics senior and the current president of UT’s chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers. In his time at UT, he has also been involved in the Student Engineering Council, Texas Blazers and Cockrell School Cares. After graduation, Tekle will be moving to the San Francisco Bay Area to work for Google as a software engineer.

Milton B. Lee (B.S. ME 1971) – founder of Lee Energy Partners and has over 40 years of executive leadership, engineering and board experience in the electric power, gas and utility industry. Throughout his extensive career he has held leadership roles across a broad range of entities, including CPS Energy, Austin Energy, Texas Public Power Association, Lower Colorado River Authority and the National Society of Black Engineers. Lee is a prominent leader in industry and has been inducted into UT Austin’s Academy of Distinguished Alumni and in the Walker Department of Mechanical Engineering’s Alumni Hall of Fame.

Dr. Chad T. Wilson (B.S. ChE 1997) – associate professor of surgery at the Baylor College of Medicine and serves as the Trauma Medical Director of Ben Taub Hospital in Houston. As a UT student, he was awarded the Exxon Technical Scholarship and worked as an intern for Exxon for several summers before deciding to apply to medical school. Wilson went on to earn his M.D. from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and he now works in the same trauma hospital where his mother worked nights as a medical technologist when he was growing up.

Tejuana L. Edmond (B.S. ChE 1998) – energy industry executive currently serving as the Americas Regional Director of the Fluid Catalytic Cracking/Refining Catalysts division of BASF where she is responsible for overseeing all technical, sales and commercial activities across North and South America for the refining sector of the oil and gas industry. She is a passionate advocate for STEM education, educational equity and diversity and inclusion, serving on the board of directors for the Houston Area Urban League and the African American Leadership Council of the BASF African American Employee Group.
