Did You Know… There are only two African countries that were never colonized?
Of the 54 countries in Africa today, Ethiopia and Liberia are the only African nations that have never come under the Europeans’ aggressive exploitation. Ethiopia retained its sovereignty by decisively defeating the Italian forces in the Battle of Adwa in 1896. Meanwhile, Liberia was founded by Americans in 1821 as a settlement region for freed American slaves. It became a fully independent nation on April 4, 1839 after the Commonwealth declaration. The rest of Africa had been at one or the other colonized and governed by various European powers.
